The Clay Shirt
A relaxed rust shirt, handwoven and handspun, with detailed Kantha hand embroidery tracing from the centre front, across the pocket, and toward the sleeve.
Naturally dyed using catechu and madder, the fabric carries warm, earthy depth with subtle tonal variation shaped by the dyeing process. Coconut shell buttons add a natural finish, while pintucks and openwork joining stitches along the back bring soft layered structure and visible handwork to the silhouette. Running stitches along the sleeves, edges, and back complete the piece.
Handwoven from Kala cotton — an indigenous cotton known for its lived-in texture — the fabric feels light, breathable, and comfortable against the skin, with an ease that moves naturally with the body.
This shirt is handwoven and hand-spun from an indigenous fabric known as Kala cotton. Naturally dyed using catechu and madder roots. Variations in colour and texture are part of the nature of the fabric and process. Finished with Coconut Shell buttons, the piece is fully biodegradable.
Hand wash separately, inside out, using a mild detergent. Dry in shade. Do not tumble dry. Warm iron or steam if needed. Naturally dyed fabrics may release excess colour during the first few washes before settling naturally.
